Narrative of the Academics Flow Chart
At MUST University, the academic journey of a student is structured through a dynamic and responsive process designed to ensure academic success, timely graduation, and adherence to institutional policies. The Academics Flow Chart outlines the potential academic pathways a student may follow during their enrollment.
1. Active Student
All students begin as Active Students, meaning they are currently enrolled in and attending classes according to their academic schedule. This is the central status from which other academic scenarios may emerge.
2. Temporary Academic Interruptions: LOA/PLOA
If a student encounters personal or professional challenges that temporarily interrupt their academic progress, they may request a Leave of Absence (LOA) or a Personal Leave of Absence (PLOA). These are approved interruptions that allow the student to pause their studies without penalty. However, students must return by the approved timeframe to avoid automatic withdrawal.
3. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Pathways
MUST University monitors academic performance through Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) evaluations:
- SAP Warning: If a student does not meet SAP standards for a term, they are placed on SAP Warning. They are given a 15-week period (one semester) to meet an academic improvement plan.
- SAP Appeal: Students who fail the SAP Warning period may submit a SAP appeal for a second chance to continue.
- SAP Probation: If the appeal is approved, the student enters SAP Probation, where they must meet specific criteria outlined in a new academic plan. If they fail to meet the plan, they are dismissed from the University.
4. Capstone Completion
Once a student completes all prerequisites, they may enter the Capstone phase, which represents the final course(s) of their program. Students are given 15 weeks to complete the Capstone. If unsuccessful, one repeat attempt is allowed with approval. Any further attempts require a formal appeal.
5. Withdrawal or Dismissal
A student may be Withdrawn (Dropped) due to non-participation, financial delinquency, or unmet SAP standards without an approved LOA/PLOA. In cases of severe misconduct, violation of academic integrity, or other significant breaches, the student may be Dismissed from the institution.
6. Reentry Process
Students who were previously withdrawn, dropped, or dismissed may apply for Reentry. If approved, their status is updated, and upon attending classes again, they return to Active Student status.
7. Graduation Scenarios
Upon successful completion of all coursework and program requirements:
- A student is classified as Graduate if all academic and financial obligations are met.
- A student may be designated as Graduate with Balance if all academic requirements are complete, but financial obligations remain outstanding. Once the balance is cleared, the full graduate status is conferred.
