Academics Flow Chart / Definitions (Feb 2024)
Active Student – A student that is actively attending courses and following their scheduled educational track.
Capstone – This only applies to programs that have a Capstone course. Students that have
successfully completed all prerequisite courses for their program of study and have received approval to progress into the Capstone section of their program. During the capstone phase students will have 15 weeks to successfully complete their capstone. Students that are unsuccessful on their first 15-week attempt can repeat Capstone and upon approval, will be afforded an additional 15-week semester to complete. Capstone can only be repeated once, any additional repeat attempts (in addition to the one-time repeat) will require the submission of an appeal.
Dismissal – Students that have violated the University code of conduct, academic standards, found in violation of a policy or procedure, or acted in an unbecoming way may be dismissed from the University.
Graduate – Student has successfully completed all coursework and meet all graduation requirements and obligations as stated in the Institutional Catalog and their program of study.
Graduate with a Balance – Students have successfully completed all coursework and meet all graduation requirements as stated in the Institutional Catalog except the financial requirement. Students will be moved to a graduate status once they have met all financial obligations.
LOA / PLOA – Students that are facing difficulties that will temporarily prevent them from continuing in their scheduled educational track are able to take a LOA or a PLOA (please see catalog for qualifications). Students that have approved LOA/PLOA requests will have an assigned timeframe they will be afforded and must return by no later than the maximum status timeframe to avoid being withdrawn.
Reentry – Students that have previously attended classes at the university and are no longer active students due to a withdrawal, drop, or dismissal can apply for reentry into the university. Approved reentry requests will be placed in Reentry status until they begin attending classes and flipped to Active.
SAP Appeal – Students that fail to successfully meet the SAP Warning Academic Plan will be afforded the opportunity to submit a SAP appeal. Appeal will be reviewed by the SAP Appeals Committee which will determine if the student will be afforded one more semester under SAP probation (approved appeals) or be dismissed (denied appeal) from the University.
SAP Probation – Students with approved SAP appeals will proceed to taking one more semester under a probationary status. Students will be afforded a SAP Probation Academic Plan which will delineate the requirements the student must meet in order to improve. Students that fail to meet SAP requirements by the end of the probationary period will be dismissed from the University for failing to meet SAP standards.
SAP Warning – A student that has not met SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) standards for an evaluation period will be placed in SAP warning status. During this status, a student will be afforded an academic improvement plan and afforded 15 weeks (one semester) to meet the educational plan.
Withdraw (Drop) – Students that are not active in their program of study by participating in their assigned courses of study, or are not meeting their financial obligations, or have not met SAP requirements, and are not in an approved LOA/PLOA status will be withdrawn from the University. Withdrawn students may apply for reentry into their program (see Reentry status).
